Carvajal Sostenibilidad

Sustainable

Cali
In addition to being the ‘Salsa Capital of the World’ and the ‘Sucursal del Cielo’, Cali is a city woven by different conditions that allow it to catapult itself as an example of a sustainable city for the region. We have proposed to make several alliances to strengthen this concept in the city and make it a leader in the management and use of single-use packaging.

In partnership with Fundación Carvajal, we are working with the city’s official educational institutions to create a solid civic culture around proper waste management. In each institution an environmental committee of students is formed and teachers and academic coordinators are accompanied in the strengthening of their PRAES (School Environmental Project).

“I recycle in quarantine” was the initial name of this initiative, which was created with the purpose of mobilizing the recycling chain in the city to ensure that the waste generated reaches the official recycler. In addition to strengthening the culture of separation at the source in households.

The work of recyclers is of utmost importance to boost the circular economy in Colombia. However, with the changes in the social dynamics generated by the pandemic, access to their raw material (usable waste) was reduced. For this reason, we decided to reconfigure the scheme and collect usable waste directly at home, giving recyclers access to waste from every household.

Adoption of
El Templete Park

We joined the Green Zones Adoption Program of the Administrative Department of the Environment – DAGMA, to work on the environmental and landscape recovery of El Templete Park. In order to give the park an attraction and pay tribute to the city, Carvajal Empaques donated the artistic work ‘Mirá Ve’, made with 648 thousand recycled plastic cups and painted by six Colombian artists.
